Rowan Yellow Collar

Rowan Yellow Collar

**ROWAN** (bright yellow ribbon) is in the middle of this picture along with her four sisters. She has three brothers.  Rowan now lives in North Carolina USA, she left the Ranch on September 11th 2008 for her new home.   I look forward to hearing of her accomplishments as a K9 Sports Poodle.

Katrina,

I am a 46 year old single mom living in Chapel Hill, NC on a fenced acre, with my 13 year old son Jesse, a standard poodle ‘Brenna’ and ‘Jamie’ the border terrier.  I also have 4 cats that share our life.  I am active in Carolina Pet rescue which is run by a veterinarian friend of mine.  We only rescue exotics, not cats or dogs.  There are usually some ferrets, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles and such here as well.  My poodle and border can’t wait to see what is in each carrier I bring home, they think that they are all for them to mother and play with.  Occasionally I hand raise orphaned kittens until they are old enough to go to a regular foster home.  Being one of the crazy people who does not mind getting up every 2 hours to feed babies there are usually a litter or two around during the spring and summer months.  I am a former groomer (20 + years), I had my own shop in California, but it just got to be to hard on my body.  I am now a vet tech working for a local vet clinic here in Chapel Hill.  I work 3 days a week and the animals are only ever alone for a few hours while my son is at school.  We hike alot, swim at the lake, and camp during the warmer weather.  We spend most our time at home where we work in our studio and vegetable garden.  The only vacations we go on are ones that include the dogs, but I must admit it’s hard to leave home with so many animals around.  I was raised on a horse farm in upstate New York and have never gotten over the need to have creatures all around.  My home is pretty much a recovery station for small animals in need of better homes.

I have owned standards for 16 years.  The one that I have now is one that I bred my self whose father was an agility dog from San Diego California.  My ex has her mother whom we miss dearly.  Brenna is a smaller dog only 38 lbs, who is very athletic and joyful, but refuses to leave my side for agility work.  She is totally focused on me to the exclusion of all else.  An awesome obedience dog, just not into agility.  We had planned on showing Brenna but due to the divorce and moving we did not manage to find the time.  We are now settled and secure in our new home in the forest, and we just don’t seem to know what to do with only 2 dogs, somebody always has to sleep without a dog and these two are inseparable.  Jamie is an adorable little girl whose father was # 1 winning border terriers a few years ago in the US.  She is great fun, but not in the same class with a standard.  Standards are just the most human like creatures ever.  When I got my first standard poodle (he was a Wisperwinds on a Carousel grandson) my family laughed at me, Kim with a poodle.  Did not take them long to see what attracted me to the breed.  They are the best of all four legged companions I’ve ever had.  I used to do archaeology work for the Navy and they went with me every time I was out in the field.  They were always well behaved and much enjoyed by everyone.

My son has dark red hair and silly but the thought of a red poodle has kind of stuck in our heads.  Many of the reds are big and rangy looking but yours are gorgeous.  We are partial to females but will consider a male if it the right one.

I would be happy to give you the names and numbers of a couple of vets that I’ve worked for (previous and current clinics) and I am sure that they will give me an excellent  reference.  I spend more money on my animals and the rescue than I do on either my son or myself.  Don’t tell him though, he thinks he’s pretty spoiled.

Our long term goal is to buy a bigger piece of property and raise Alpaca’s.  We have a dedicated fund in our budget for this plan.  Eventually the poodles and ourselves will live with a bunch long necked poodle like creatures.  All will have even more room to run and explore.

Now you know a little about us.  Please let me know what else I can share with you and I would be happy to provide references as well.  I am a dedicated animal person, as you may see animals are my life.

NOTE: from Katrina Schumacher, I forgot that Kim had mentioned in her first little note to me that she would like Conformation as well as K9 Sports prospect in Red .  So as I watched the pups develope, I looked for the most athletic most adventourus pup…and that was Rowan (yellow collar) she did everything first, was the bravest… next to her was (dark pink collar) who is now Razzmatazz (sister who is now in Texas)  Kim had mentioned she needed a pup that was not a leg hugger ( brother Flynn is a leg hugger) someone who would be able to zoom around an agility course later…  Rowan has a nice big white spot on her chest that will keep her out of AKC conformation….but I bet Kim and Jesse could show her in UKC which does allow Partis in their classes.  I’m very pleased that Rowan has done such a good job of being a special pup to Kim and Jesse that they now want a full sister; a  show female from Phoenix’s next litter… Thanks Kim for that confidence.

I have more pictures to edit of Rowan while here at the Ranch, that I’ll place in here later..

Katrina,

Thanks for thinking of us !!  We love Rowan, she had her shot today and inter-nasal kennel cough.  We are deworming her  through 16 weeks as standard protocol, and starting her on heartworm prevention (we have LOTS of mosquitoes).

Nobody wanted to stay still for pictures and it was getting dark, but here are couple that were not too blurry.

Will try to get better pictures and send them this weekend.

Again, I can’t thank you enough, Rowan is well loved by all !!

Kim and Jesse

ps…..  don’t think to badly about his long hair, he is growing it out to donate it for ‘locks of love’ for cancer patients that have lost their hair.  He figures that there aren’t probably as many red headed donors….

A RedHeaded Boy and his RedHeaded Pooch, I’d say a perfect color match.

Jesse plans to donate his hair…what a great thing you are doing, I admire

you Jesse.  note from Katrina
